MBE University Conference, May 2014

The MBE University Conference & Expo held on May 20th was a great success.  Nearly 150 business owners attended the day-long program held at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum in Baltimore City.

GOMA's Special Secretary Zenita Wickham Hurley emceed the event which included an address from Congressman Elijah J. Cummings, a power lunch keynote presentation by local economist Anirban Basu, Chairman & CEO of Sage Policy Group and three educational tracks consisting of nine workshop options.  Participants met with resource partners and buyers who support diversity in the Expo Hall and one-on-one matchmaking appointments.

The event culminated with a 5th Anniversary Reception where Secretary Hurley recognized Wells Fargo for their long-standing support of MBE University, recognizing them as the 2014 Outstanding Corporate Partner.

The MBE University Conference was created by the O'Malley-Brown Administration in 2009 to provide a platform for creating connections that expand opportunities for small, minority- and women-owned businesses. This unique forum combines networking, matchmaking and professional development opportunities with educational programs focused on public and private sector procurement strategies.  The collegiate atmosphere creates an open exchange of information and ideas that benefits all participants.

The MBE University Conference has been hosted at locations across Maryland, drawn over 2,500 participants to date and become the gathering place for all stakeholders who support diversity.

MBE University is not a postsecondary educational program or course.
