About GOMA - Advocacy

Advocacy

The Governor's Office of Small, Minority & Women Business Affairs is the State’s primary advocate for small, minority- and women-owned businesses. We promote fairness and compliance in government contracting and endorse the utilization of certified MBE and SBR firms. Learning to navigate the procurement process is a critical element of success for any firm that wants to perform as a prime or subcontractor on a government contract. If you have trouble navigating the procurement process, contact us for assistance.

All agencies that participate in the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Small Business Reserve (SBR) programs staff a liaison.  The liaison reviews agency contracting procedures to ensure compliance and coordinates the agencies outreach efforts to the small and minority business communities.

In 2009, Maryland created a Fraud Hotline for the purpose of reporting potential violations against a certified MBE. A call to the hotline will trigger an investigation. The more details you provide, the better chance we have of determining whether fraud has been committed. Callers may remain anonymous. If you suspect fraud against an MBE, call 410-697-9611.
